Mission.Earth is a home for charitable projects across the broad spectrum of public good, agnostic of size and scope. As such, we take special precaution to remain accessible to anyone who wants to give it a go. We offer our 501(c)(3) tax status to enable charitable work, and then we get out of the way.
In practice, that looks like:
- A cost-sharing structure that mimics a progressive tax, thereby spreading the burden of administration costs equitably among fiscally-sponsored projects of varying size and faculty.
- A lack of overhead infrastructure to keep costs as low as possible.
- Prolific use of technology to enable widespread participation and build scalable systems that support compliance.
- Growing and shrinking based on the needs of our fiscally-sponsored projects.

Sponsored projects can expect Mission.Earth to:
- Hold and steward funds you collect on behalf of your fiscally-sponsored project
- Account for your funds using Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP)
- Receive donations on behalf of your fiscally-sponsored project
- Make payments on behalf of your fiscally-sponsored project
- Employ and pay your staff
- Report our accounting of your income and expenses on a regular basis
- File all required reporting to federal and state regulators
- Work with your project on your unique needs and administrative burdens to maximize time spent on your mission.
How much does it cost?
Mission.Earth has no recurring fee or fundraising minimum. All of our fiscally-sponsored projects contribute to the shared cost of administering the 501(c)(3) designation we all enjoy.
Costshare rates are based on funds raised in a calendar year, per the following schedule*:
FUNDS RAISED IN A CALENDAR YEAR | ADMINISTRATIVE COSTSHARE |
---|---|
$0-$5000 | 4.5% |
$5001-$50,000 | 6.5% |
$50,001-$250,000 | 8.5% |
$250,001-$500,000 | 7.5% |
$500,001-$1,000,000 | 6.5% |
$1,000,001 + | 5.5% |
*Payroll services add $32/month for the first employee and $8/month for each additional employee. The project shall be required to maintain a fund account minimum balance equal to three months of payroll and all payroll costs.
Depending on your particular needs, a fiscally-sponsored project may require additional administrative support. Mission.Earth will partner with your organization to provide additional support a-la-carte at a reasonable cost.
